Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is critical for ensuring the safety and longevity of infrastructures. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have emerged as a promising technology for real-time SHM due to their cost-effectiveness, ease of deployment, and scalability. This paper explores the implementation of WSNs for SHM in civil infrastructure, focusing on data acquisition, communication protocols, and energy-efficient algorithms tailored for Pakistani urban environments. The study highlights the challenges, technological advancements, and case studies demonstrating the effectiveness of WSNs in monitoring structural integrity. Two comparative analyses of sensor data transmission and network lifetime optimization are presented. The results indicate significant improvements in early damage detection and reduced maintenance costs. Recommendations for future research and practical deployment strategies in Pakistan’s infrastructure sector are also discussed.
